Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is AuctionGirl?
A. AuctionGirl helps
sell unwanted items for those who don't have the time, or inclination,
to do it for themselves.
So, what do we do? We research (to see how to
obtain the best price for your items), list the items on eBay (or other
auction sites), photography, liaise with buyers, packing and shipping,
customer service, and organise payment settlement.
Or to put it another way. We
take the hassle away from you and help to turn your clutter into cash!
Q. Why use AuctionGirl?
A. Because we take the
hassle out of selling your stuff and usually get you a higher price than
you might have got yourself by using our:
Product expertise: We
research and write professional listings for your items to make sure
they are presented in the best possible light.
research the market and find those magic keywords that help to
maximise the final sale price.
Market research: We use
powerful software to determine how long your item(s) should be
available at auction and even which day of the week and at what time
each auction should finish. All of this varies depending on the
Photography & photo
hosting: We place your items on eBay with full colour photos, but we
know the techniques that will help ensure that the photographs win
your items higher bids.
service: We carefully pack and post items worldwide.
is in our interest to get you the best possible price because we get
paid based on sale price commission.
Q. Can you collect my unwanted goods and what
are the charges?
A. Yes we can!
First of all we ask you to
this short form. Then we'll get back in
touch - usually within a day - to discuss your items and arrange to come
and let you know which items might sell.
Depending on the size of the
items you wish to sell, we will either organise to come and have a look
at them or actually collect them from you in advance of the sale taking
Q. What does AuctionGirl do with each item?
A. Broadly speaking,
the following steps are followed:
1. Once you have
sent us a list of what you have to
sell, we will research each item and determine if we think we will be able
to sell them for you. It will be at this point that you will advise us
if you are looking to achieve a minimum price for each item.
2. Research and compose a professional description for the items. The
research involves using sophisticated software to help identify the best
length of time to promote your item through auction and even the best
time and day of the week to have each auction complete. It can take up
to 10 days to prepare the listings. We determine an auction starting
price by researching your items on eBay that are similar, that have
previously sold well. This gives us an idea of what you might expect to
sell your item for.
3. We present the items with as many photographs as necessary and
photographed in a manner which will attract more auction bids.
4. Initiate the auctions to
end at an optimised time slot.
5. Answer potential buyer's
questions during the auction period.
6. Communicate with the
successful buyer. Once the auctions are closed, we'll send you an update
with prices achieved, and then we'll be doing the hard work of chasing
the buyers for payment and making sure they receive the items. They have
a week to pay and another week to return goods if not satisfied.
7. Pack and ship the items.
8. Handle returns or
Q. Can I watch my items being auctioned?
A. Yes, but please
remember that much of the bidding happens at the last minute on eBay, so
if you do happen to decide to watch the auctions then please don't be
disheartened if it looks as though everything is going for a small
amount at the beginning.
happens if my item doesn't sell?
A. If your item doesn't
sell we'll automatically relist it twice and then give you the
option of having it relisted again after that. It's common for items to
receive no bids on one occasion and then several on the next. We know how
to re-optimise listings and sometimes apparently small tweaks can have a
dramatic outcome. Many items will sell on the third occasion for
good money and there may be no particular reason why it didn't succeed
in selling previously.
Ultimately if the item doesn't
sell then we'll arrange to get it back to you. Or sometimes people might
opt to donate it to charity. The choice is always yours.
Q. When Will I Get Paid?
A. Most auctions run
between 7-10 days. Once the items are paid for, shipped & received
by the buyer and we have received feedback so we know that the buyer is
happy, we then pay your share direct into your bank account or send you a cheque.
Depending on how items are
paid for and how quickly the payments are made after the auction closes
will determine how quickly you'll get your money. It could be as long as
2-3 weeks after your auction closes and we've received feedback before
you receive payment.
Q. Which items are best to sell through
A. Almost any item can
be sold, as long as it is not prohibited for sale on auction sites.
Here is a small sample of what
we have sold recently: Designer Clothing and sportswear, silver goods,
watches, pens, perfume, branded body lotions, toys, printers, PC
accessories, CD's, electronic games - quite a varied list as you can see
and there are many other items that we could list like furniture and
